The fast lane

In Germany, drivers highly respect the fast lane due to the presence of fast vehicles on autobahns. As cars approach from behind at high speeds, avoiding being stuck in the fast lane is crucial. That’s why slower drivers show respect towards the faster cars by keeping to the inside lanes. However, in Australia, drivers don’t seem to have the same respect for the fast lane on a freeway.

Despite road laws that require drivers to stay out of the fast lane unless overtaking, many Australian drivers think that they own the fast lane and drive at 100 kph in it, making other cars pass them on the inside lanes. Since all vehicles on Australian Freeways travel at the same speed, which is no faster than 110 kph, drivers feel that any lane is the fast lane. I get frustrated with Australian drivers who don’t respect the fast lane on freeways. If we had greater permissible freeway speeds, drivers would have more respect for the fast lane.
