Bland but comforting

Today I spent my birthday sleeping, eating, and reading. I just started book #18 of a 30-book light novel series. I find I’m hooked on the story despite the fact that nothing much happens in any one novel.

For example, in the previous book I read it seemed like the character might be ambushed, but as it turned out, a friend she had made a few books prior warned people off-stage and they prevented the ambush.

I was expecting an epic battle, but the problem was solved by a solid foundation of diplomacy and compassion.

It’s like a bowl of macaroni and cheese: bland but comforting.
