For You

Twitter seems to have gained a new “For You” tab, rather than just showing me tweets from people I follow. No doubt this is part of the Musk growth plan?

I kinda like it actually.

Recently, I have slimmed down the number of people I follow on Twitter, opting to find relevant lists instead. This allows me to dip in and out of UK politics, or SEO topics and go down the UFO rabbit hole when I feel like it. It keeps my timeline clear, so I can concentrate on the people I actually want to follow. It’s all too easy to get sucked in to following too many people and topics.

The “For You” tab seems a bit like Instagram, where it shows me tweets from other people who have similar followers, tweets that people I follow have been involved with that I might have missed, related topics, hashtags or trends.

However, it also unfortunately adds to the never-ending scrollability of it too. A bit like Reddit, there is an endless supply of quick dopamine hits to score. At least before the “For You” tab, I new when I got to the end of the newest tweets. I even switch Facebook to be most recent posts first, so I know when I am seeing the repeats.

I can switch Twitter back to “Following” and see what I saw before, but I am enjoying this update now. Even @therealbrandonwilson is tweeting more! Either that, or the algorithm is showing me his tweets and comments more often…

Wait UFO rabbit hole? Which accounts/lists do you use for that? 😆

I tend to read /r/UFOs on Reddit most, but use this Twitter list.
