Git

Jason forwarded me a link to one of his repositories on GitHub, a way to read the archive of your old 200WAD posts.
To be honest, I have no idea how or why to use Git or GitHub for stuff. I have a few repositories, public and private, but have never really used it for much apart from storing and sharing snippets of code or half-assing an attempt at creating a useful tool for something or other. I am using it more as file storage than a development tool. I don’t really know what forking is, when or why I need to commit or what GitHub pages are (or how to set them up).
I wonder if it is because I have done most of my development along side WordPress. Sure, I can manage versions of the theme or plugin files I am working on, but because WordPress is driven by a database, using Git or GitHub doesn’t work very well. There isn’t a way to maintain database revisions - in fact you can’t even really upload it at all.
Or is that I am not a real developer? Yeah, that’s probably it 😂

Oh I forgot to add - I wrote a quick tutorial on how to use that template:
Thanks Jason. I managed to get it up and running after a few teething problems. When I deleted the example .md file, it deleted the _articles folder too! I was also not aware that as I was uploading my folders that I needed to “commit” after each 100. I went through the process of uploading 206 folders and then realised that there wasn’t anything there :D
Shame I can’t make it private and still hosted on GitHub Pages though…
Oh no sorry about that confusion. Yeah Github Pages means it’ll be public…
I guess it’s up now? What’s the URL?
I used the process so that I have a home for the 200WAD posts, but I haven’t looked at it in a while.
