As part of my exercise routine, I have returned to the pool, and I am now swimming laps for exercise. Two weeks in, I remember how challenging pool swimming can be. After my first lap, I felt exhausted. Pool swimming presents several challenges. Maintaining a rhythm while breathing can be difficult. I have struggled to coordinate my breathing with my strokes, making it feel unnatural. Achieving the proper body position in the water is not easy. Trying to attain a horizontal, streamlined position to reduce drag becomes harder as I start to tire. Swimming demands a lot of stamina. It engages multiple muscle groups and can be more exhausting than some other forms of exercise, especially for beginners.

However, with practice, many of these challenges can be overcome, making swimming a more enjoyable and effective workout. I started by swimming one 50-metre lap freestyle, and then the return lap was breaststroke. I then rest for a minute and repeat as many times as I can. I have also slowed down and focused on my swimming technique, especially my breathing. I need to ensure I am exhaling strongly while my head is under the water and taking a good breath when I turn my head out of the water. It has been 12 years since I last swum laps in a pool, so the key is to build up slowly.
