Portfolio > Credentials

Jason stated this nice clean formula in the comments section of my post yesterday. I have to agree.

Back home in Ethiopia, credentials are everything. Even now, when I look at job posts, it is very common to see certifications and degrees as a requirement back home.

But in the US, there is a shift and it is a shaper shift after COVID. All people want to know if you have a skill or how fast you can learn. Things are changing so fast that what is covered in a 4 year college is outdated before you graduate.

I used to think that portfolio was a think for people in the design/fashion or photography industries. But now, it is a big thing in tech as well.

I have to consider updating my github page soon.

@keni Yes totally! I’m observing that even in industries where credentials are usually everything (e.g. government where I spend a lot of time in for my consultancy work), they expect the customary credentials but now also want another layer of assessment - culture fit, team fit, values, personality. Which is perfect for portfolio to show.
