After enjoying an Australia Day drive with like-minded roadster enthusiasts yesterday, we saddled up again today for another day of driving.

On today’s drive, we left Bright and again went over the Tawonga Gap road towards Mount Beauty, which lies alongside the Kiewa River, at the junction of the Kiewa Valley Highway and Bogong High Plains Road. From here, we ascended the Bogong High Plains Road to Falls Creek. Falls Creek is an alpine and cross-country ski resort, but it turns into an outdoor adventure mecca during the summer, popular with bike riders and bushwalkers.

Once you leave Falls Creek, the road follows the Victorian High Plains, where we stopped off to visit Wallaces and Cope huts, which remain as a testament to the pioneers who lived, explored and worked on this land in the mid-1800s.

Eventually, we descend off the High Plains towards Mitta Mitta. We are now on some of the best driving roads in Victoria, with plenty of twists and turns. However, if you are not careful, your brakes can overheat quite quickly. For me, the road from the High Plains to Mitta Mitta was the highlight of the last two days of driving. We then headed north and looped back to Bright.

After driving 700 kilometres over two days, I might make this an annual event. I shall call it Summer Peaks.
