The big Roe V. Wade decision

If there were ever a day to stay off social media, today would be the day. The US Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe V. Wade, effectively ending federal abortion rights and handing the laws to the states. According to former President Donald Trump, “God made the decision.”

Abortion is one of the most contentious and controversial issues out there, and I’m not going to touch it with a ten-foot pole. Let’s go with a twenty-foot pole. Even that is going out on a limb as many suggest a man is somehow not even allowed to weigh in on the conversation. There are some people who want abortion on demand, any time anywhere with zero restrictions. There are others who say ban abortion completely. I think any reasonable person would agree the true answer lies somewhere in the middle. The question is whether you fall closer to one side or the other.

Research suggests that between 10% and 20% of women with a medically confirmed pregnancy will end in miscarriage. Eighty percent of these will occur during the first trimester. Now we call those circumstances a miscarriage and not an abortion because nature made the decision and not the woman.

I am a big advocate for health autonomy. People should have the right to do whatever they want to their bodies whether there’s harm. This is fine if you are the only one in the picture. When you add in an embryo that becomes a fetus that becomes a baby, you’ve greatly complicated the matter.
