Working on vacation?

I have been experiencing the shift in how vacations work when you have a traditional job vs. your own business. When you have a traditional job, you're supposed to completely unplug from work when you go on vacation. I am a recovering workaholic, and I've learned how to manage this process better. I am finally able to fully unplug from work and enjoy vacation.

BUT, now that I'm focusing more on my business, I'm tilting back toward "bringing work with me." In my estimation, this is not a bad thing. Whenever I get together with my friend Steve, we always end up talking shop, which leads to my brain kicking into high gear, and then I get the fire to create.

Case in point, I made more progress on my health conference directory. I had a request from someone to add a form to allow them to submit an email to get updates. I like this idea because it will act as a tickler to get people to continue to return to the directory. Of course, this means more work for me unless I can automate it. ChatGPT came to the rescue and gave me detailed steps to follow.

The first step was identifying a tool for email capture, and I settled on Kit (formerly ConvertKit). I created a free account and then used a template to create a basic form for email capture. I generated the HTML code for the form and embedded it as an ad in Directify so that it appears at the top of the page.

The next step is to automate sending the weekly email updates. I want to showcase upcoming events for that week and list any events I added from the previous week. I will be syncing my directory with Google Sheets, and then I will identify an automation tool that will pull listings based on specific criteria and generate the weekly email. Who knew that working while on vacation would be so fun?

Sounds like a great feature to add! It’ll definitely help people stick around, whether by email or coming back to the site!
