Writing funnel v2.0

I had wrote about my writing funnel before way back, but never actually implemented it. Rereading that old post made me realise that I’ve already started on it, and can build it out further.

From content creation to consumption, to commenting, discussion and sharing, my writing funnel version 1.0 was:

• Daily writing for atomic writing and writing-to-think.
• Personal blog of long form content.
• Canonical cross-posting to Medium for commenting.
• Twitter for debate and shouting matches.
• Facebook/LinkedIn for showing off to people I know.
• Telegram, IH, Slack for ad-hoc sharing to niche groups.

For writing funnel version 2.0, I’m tweaking some parts, adding a few more:

Primary channels -
Lifelog for atomic writing, writing-to-think, works-in-progress.
Twitter for short form distribution via value-packed threads, for discussion, engagement and referral loops back to Lifelog or my personal Twitter account.
• Canonical cross-posting to Medium for writers, for long form distribution. Any monies from the Partner Program will be a bonus.
Quora for further long form distribution to frequently asked questions about writing, people who might already be warm to the idea of Lifelog.
LinkedIn for distributing to professionals on why writing benefits their career.

Secondary channels -
Reddit for the chance of viral distribution, but tough crowd.
Facebook for showing off to people I know haha. ;)
Indie Hackers, Hacker News, Telegram / Slack groups for ad-hoc sharing to niche target groups - indie writers, creators, bloggers, marketing folks, entrepreneurs, developers, makers.
Personal blog for occasional personal long form content, like monthly, yearly goals and reviews.

Of course, I won’t be posting on every single one of the channels listed every time I write something – that would be too much work! The top 3 will be posted almost every time, but the rest will be ad-hoc and where it’s meaningful and makes sense.

For those who had done this before, what might be some things I should be aware or cautious about when doing this funnel?

Anyone distributed via TikTok before? How best can Lifelog distribute content on TikTok?

Glad to see you ramping up. How does the canonical cross-posting to Medium work? Do you designate the original post as the “real” one so that the other postings don’t cancel out the SEO?

@therealbrandonwilson Yes that’s how it works I think. Google penalizes duplicate content, so setting canonical link helps prevent any penalty - am I right, @tao?

Yes, in theory that is correct.
However, there are many examples of where sites scrape content from others and publish it, outranking the original.
Google is supposed to know which is the original, but without a Canonical, which scrapers won’t use anyway, its open to abuse.

@tao thanks for explaining! I swear, this whole SEO thing is like voodoo black magic to me.
