Xero Shoes

At the biohacking conference, I tried on a pair of Xero shoes. These shoes purport to allow your feet to move naturally as if you were walking barefoot. According to the rep, the benefits are the following:

  • Natural fit - Wide toe boxes let your toes spread and relax. “Zero-drop” non-elevated heel for proper posture.
  • Natural feel - Flexible soles let your foot bend and flex naturally. Low-to-the-ground design for balance and agility.
  • Natural motion - Our patented FeelTrue sole lets you safely Feel The World, protecting your foot while giving your brain the feedback and stimulation your brain wants.

At the biohacking conference last year, I purchased a pair of Align insoles. I have not had any issues with my feet, but I also am intrigued by the idea of shoes that mimic walking around barefoot. After all, our ancestors were barefoot all the time.

What sold me was when Dave Asprey mentioned that he wears Xero shoes and had to have a custom size-16 pair made for him. I don’t need anything fancy, just a lowly size 9. They didn’t have my size at the conference, so I ordered a pair online. They just arrived today, and I’m looking forward to giving them a try.

Is this like vibram fivefingers toe shoes?

I’ve seen those. I’d say Xero shoes are more closely related to actual shoes than the “gloves-for-your-feet” approach.
