Since February, I’ve started to focus more on planning instead of blindly building things. This has made me pay more attention to how and what I plan. I do high-level planning for the big picture on a yearly and monthly basis and detailed planning on a day-to-day basis.

For May, I decided to try out mind mapping and found MindNode, which is free with my Setapp subscription, to be a great tool for planning. I use it to jot down things I want to do and what I need to do. It’s great to see the entire mind map and feel like I’m in control of everything I need to do.

In addition to the mind map, I use Google Keep to keep track of my monthly goals, optimize tools I want to try, tasks that don’t belong to my freelance work or products, and some ad hoc tasks. Google Keep has replaced my “Me Board” on Trello because it’s lightweight and works better for keeping track of daily tasks. However, I still put all the history, changes, and reviews on Trello.

That’s how I’ve optimize my planning in May.
