AI Coding Progress - Cursor Vs Zed

I want to share some updates since I began exploring AI coding during my last product weekend. So far, I have:
- Used up my free credits with Cursor AI and am now using the Anthropic API directly.
- Used up my $10 free credits with Zed and am also using the Anthropic API directly.
If you’re considering a premium subscription, I believe paying for Cursor AI Premium is the best option. It offers numerous features that integrate with AI and significantly speed up the coding process. However, if you want to save on expenses and are using the Anthropic API with Cursor, then there’s little difference between using Zed with the Anthropic API or Cursor without the premium subscription. Without Cursor Premium, many features that enhance productivity are unavailable.
In summary, my preference ranking is:
- Cursor AI Premium
- Zed Premium
- Zed with Anthropic API
- Cursor AI with Anthropic API
Personally, I still prefer Zed over Visual Studio Code.

I have been a Cursor fan (and paying customer) for a while. I tried Windsurf this weekend, and I am seriously considering switching.
