Analyzing data with AI

It’s a bit late, and I’m tired. I’ve been watching a shouty man argue that AI is making the world dumber. As I watch the video I take screenshots of the data and upload them to ChatGPT o4-mini asking it to help me interpret the data. I already have some ideas about why the graph is misleading, and I get many other points.
Here’s the first graph.
Immediately I see one huge problem here. The bottom of the graph has been cutoff to make the trendline steeper. Here’s what ChatGPT found.
- Truncated axes that over-emphasize small dips
- Small effect sizes
- Re-benchmarking and methodology shifts
- No error bars or significance testing shown
- Mixed cohorts and surveys
Instead of passively consuming a 22-minute video, I have a long conversation with a less shouty AI chatbot that helps me explore bias in media, and skewed data. Even a bad argument from a shouty man can be used to learn.

I normally skip his videos, But, I want to understand perspectives I don’t agree with, so I occasionally watch something like this.

I lasted 10 seconds into the video. Not my cup of tea. I would have just let ChatGPT give me the summary of his musings.
