Better than golf

You don’t need to be young to participate in club motorsport. The average age of a member of the Zoom-Zoom club is fifty-four years of age. One of my friends in the Zoom-Zoom club was sixty-six when he first drove a car on a race track. Despite him working for a Formula 1 team in the late 1960s as an engine builder, it took him until his retirement to get in the driver’s seat.

I have always had a desire to drive on a race track, and it took me until my early fifties to get involved. Family, finances and a lack of spare time were the main reasons why I had to wait. It makes sense why this is the case, and now that the kids have grown up, the opportunity to participate in motorsport had arrived.

As people approach their retirement years, they often take up golf. Not me. I can’t get the same buzz from playing golf that I do from motorsport, and I don’t see the point of hitting a little white ball around a paddock.

Club motorsport provides as much intense competition and friendship as golf. So, for me, motorsport is better than golf, and I look forward to doing it for many more years to come.
