Bowling

My mother had her 50th anniversary (thanks to @therealbrandonwilson, I’m not saying birthday any more) yesterday, so we went bowling in a nearby city today with some friends and family.

Interestingly, bowling wasn’t really common over here, there is a similar sport which also translates to bowling but has a different name in German (“Kegeln”) with fewer pins and different rules. But a few years back, that changed when a cinema chain decided to expand their offerings and Brunswick also entered the Austrian market. Now there are at least a dozen of those bowling avenues with 10 lanes each.

Although I’m not really good at it, it was a wonderful afternoon spent.

Wow, I’m only four years younger than your mom?? You’re a young pup.

Well, I’m turning 29 this year, so my mom got me early :)

From what I remember, bowling in the US uses ten pins because nine-pin bowling was seen as unseemly and banned by local ordinances. Thus people added the extra pin to circumvent the laws.

@jasonleow sometimes I feel way older 🙈 Those paramedic shifts definitely let my brain move faster and have a different view on life in contrast to other people “my age”.

@Winkletter Interesting. The typical “Kegeln” over here also got 9 pins, but most of those venues shut down decades ago.

@phaidenbauer I was going to say that. You ‘sound’ older/wiser in your words. It’s a good thing 🙌
