Brainstorm

Brainstorming is a technique I don’t use often, but I have started using it more when writing fiction. Sometimes I find myself writing a scene and grabbing for details as I write. It’s as if the character is in a white room to start. Often I don’t know whether the characters themselves are sitting or standing.

In fact, I just wrote a scene last week where a character was sitting on a couch waiting for something to happen and talking to a potted plant.

I’ve written here before about using the AEIOU framework to brainstorm activities, environment, interactions, objects, and users. Had I done a bit of this work before writing I probably would have written a more active scene.
