Bruce Lee

One of my favorite people in the world is Bruce Lee. I have always been fascinated at how he was able to move and make martial arts look so appealing. I have watched all his movies many times over.
As I got older, I started to learn more about him and his philosophy in general. I was drawn to it all. I was also very attracted to the IP man movie series just so I could learn about Bruce Lee some more.
Bruce Lee is famous for many quotes. This one is one of my favorite.
“I fear not the man that has practiced 10,000 kicks once - but I fear the man that has practiced one kick 10,000 times”
This to me is about having focus, setting priorities and execution. So I decided to print this and put it where I can see it every day. It has been a week now and I keep looking at it and wondering. What is it that I want to be laser-focused on? What do I want to practice 10,000 times? It is not an easy question due to the commitment it calls for.
I went over my writings over the last 3 years. I looked at all the things I have tried to do. I looked at what my goals have been for many years prior. And I thought about what skills I have admired and have wanted to work on since childhood. I saw a consistency in all that.
I want to be better at communication.
By communication I mean:
- Public speaking
- Writing
- Screenplay
- Humor
- Persuasion
- Negotiation
- Listening
Though it may not seem obvious, most of these things gets infinitely better with a better understanding of psychology. So directly or not, I include learning about psychology as a requirement for good communication.
Now if I were Bruce Lee, how would I practice communication 10,000 times?

I have heard that he is guilty of making it famous with that book but he wasn’t the first person to state the 10,000 hour rule.

Funny sidetrack: I always wondered if Malcom Gladwell read Bruce Lee before he wrote about the 10,000-Hour Rule in his book Outliers!
