Decrepitude

Today’s word is decrepitude. I’m in the process of recuperating after spending a lot of time inactive and in bed for far too many hours over the past week. I feel weak. My joints hurt. I have pains in places where I was lying down. My head is foggy. Other than that, though, it feels good to be out and about. The weather is perfect: cool winds and warm sun.

The discomfort is just enough that I want to crawl back into bed for a nap. I could see that becoming an out-of-control feedback loop, so I’m staying outside and doing short bursts of yardwork preparing for the dying of fall.

Strength has to be rebuilt with the conscious choice again and again to endure the aches and pains.
