DIY Carplay

If your car doesn’t support CarPlay, you can still use an iPhone or iPad to create a CarPlay control by mounting it on either a windscreen or a car vent. However, this is only a workaround and doesn’t provide the full benefits of CarPlay, which integrates Apple’s services with your car. CarPlay allows you to adjust the music volume using controls built into your steering wheel and route the sound through your car speakers if you receive a call, even routing your voice back via the car’s microphone.
Creating a DIY CarPlay setup means losing the integration with your car’s stereo system unless you use a creative cabling solution. But the ability to use iOS while driving can provide easy access to Apple Maps, Music, Podcasts, phone calls and more. Safety should always be the top priority while driving, and some regions might not permit mounting anything on the windshield, so be careful when positioning your iPhone or iPad. While nothing beats a well-done CarPlay integration, even the best of them lack the customisation that could be done when you create your CarPlay control.
