My dad has still been suffering from delusional thoughts and ideas over the last few days.

He walked up to my house yesterday morning with my mum and the first question he asked as I opened the door, was if i could do him a favor and take him home, to the “right” house. When he wakes up, he seems to think he is in a hotel or institution and that my mum is either there as part of the staff, or is another patient, also “in the mad house”.

When he asked me that favor, I said I would help him and invited them in for coffee. I could tell he was a bit “up” as his movements were quite good for someone with parkinsons disease. He was able to put his coffee cup down quite well and stood without the usual rocking back and forth to get our of our armchairs.

In the end, he left with my mum but asked me to make contact with him later to make the arrangements. By 4pm, he had decided that he was too tired to go back to the “real house” and we exchanged a few messages, via my mum. I agreed we could go another time, when he wasn’t so tired and the weather not so hot.

Instead, we arranged to meet at the pub for a drink. I think the change of scenery does him good and it gives a small break for my mum too. Gives her something else to talk about, rather than going over the same unsatisfactory question and answer sessions with my dad, with him asking the same questions, never satisfied with the answers she gives him.

When he woke up today, he got dressed and appeared to be getting ready to go out. We thought he might want to head up to see me, to complete his escape plan, but he was placated by porridge and tea instead. He said he was tired again, so whilst his mind was willing, his body let him down.

His anti-psychotic medication has been assigned now, so we are waiting for the GP to prescribe it. Hopefully, it will be done this coming week and it has a good effect on his thinking patterns. He isn’t keen on taking more medication, but will just have to do as he is told.
