Family viewing

With our home renovations in full flight, the family is huddled in the family room while upstairs renovations are finished. Unfortunately, it means that we have to share the family room space for the next week or two.

I am sitting at the kitchen table on my computer writing, and the rest of the family is on the couch watching the TV. I prefer to write in silence, but the family insisted that they watch Morning Wars on Apple TV. It’s not my choice of evening viewing.

When the family watches TV, they prefer to have the volume up loud to hear the dialogue when the actors speak lightly. If I complain enough about the loud volume, they might acquiesce and turn the subtitles on.

Family TV viewing is not like it used to be when I was a kid. Then, we only had one TV, and I had to fight with my siblings to get my shows on the TV. Unfortunately, most of the time, I lost and would have to watch shows I disliked.

Now, if I don’t like the viewing, I go to another room to watch TV. Family viewing is not what it used to be, but I think I prefer it that way.
