Fantasy map

I created my first fantasy map today. Did I use one of the many map generators made specifically for this purpose? Maybe I used AI? Nope. I made it with a Google Sheet.

This was created for the story I’m developing using ChatGPT. I mapped out the major locations on a square grid from A1 to Z26 and worked out where each character was starting, and where they would travel over the course of the story.

There was still a lot of open space. From there I used ChatGPT to generate some more ideas for towns and locations, and this is what I was left with.

This shows the characters in their starting locations (red squares) and gives me just enough information for me to consider the movements of each character, where the characters will meet, and where major events will take place. As with everything else in this project, everything is likely to change. I’m finally at the point where I will start outlining the chapters.

I could have wasted my time playing with software designed to make maps, but sometimes all that’s needed is a general purpose tool with a lot of flexibility.

But to take this fantasy story serious, I’m going to need to it ala LOTR quill ink on canvas style. 😂 Bonus points if you can create an all-new language for elves.
