Festival of Speed

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an annual hill climb event featuring historic motor racing vehicles, held at Goodwood House, England. This weekend, the 2022 event is being held, and I will be watching many of the events live on YouTube.
In the summer of 1936, the Earl of March and 9th Duke of Richmond, Freddie March, held a private hillclimb for the Lancia Car Club at Goodwood House. He won it and, in doing so, inspired his grandson, the present Earl of March, to create a new and exciting racing event at his family home. The Goodwood Festival of Speed was founded in 1993 to bring motor racing back to the Goodwood estate, a location steeped in British motor racing history.
The Festival of Speed’s extraordinary atmosphere and uniquely intoxicating blend of speed and drama make it a must for everyone who relishes the prospect of getting close to the priceless vehicles and famous racing drivers, riders and celebrities.
I hope to attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed next year while on my European adventure. I will need to plan ahead and get my tickets early, as this event sells out very quickly. It should be a highlight of my trip.
