Four hours later

Now that the Wi-Fi garage door controller is finally working, after weeks of chasing the garage door company to honour their warranty obligations, I thought the hard part was over. All that remained was to connect it to my Apple Home setup so I could open and close the garage door through HomeKit. In theory, it sounded simple enough. Create a cloud project in the Tuya Developer Platform, link the device, connect Homebridge, and enjoy the benefits of home automation. In reality, it became a four-hour exercise in frustration. I followed the same process I’d used successfully at my previous home, yet this time the Homebridge plugin refused to authenticate with the Tuya cloud service. I checked credentials, regions, endpoints, project types, app settings, and device links. Every error message led to another dead end.

Even after working through countless combinations and seeking help from AI, the solution remained elusive. The most frustrating part is knowing it should work. Somewhere, a single setting or configuration is preventing the connection, but finding it feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. It’s getting late, and fatigue is starting to outweigh determination. Sometimes the best troubleshooting tool is a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow I’ll come back with fresh eyes and hopefully discover the one thing I’ve been overlooking all evening.
