For the past few years I’ve been using the internet as a distraction to avoid some real pain in my life. But I’m finally having good days again where I stay offline and get outside to enjoy the thrum of nature, healing my mind and body.
Sure, the coal trains pass by and there’s a constant high-pitched hum of tires from the highway. But there is also birdsong and the wind in the trees. I’ll take all of the noise with equanimity.
I still get tired after only a few minutes of work, but I’m pacing myself and doing work in short spurts of activity. I read as I rest, or I just sit and enjoy life in motion around me. If I can keep this up, I’ll get my health back. I feel like I have a lot of good days ahead of me.
