Next Sunday, I will be participating in a 10-kilometre fun run, which aims to raise money for mental health services. Although I haven’t participated in an organised fun run for a few years, my daughter convinced me to join her team and contribute to this cause. Since I do some regular running every week, I am confident that I will complete the 10 kilometres without much difficulty.

During my morning run today, I was pondering about my upcoming runs and realised that if I am able to comfortably run 10 kilometres, why not set a goal for myself to complete a half marathon, which is 21.1 kilometres? Therefore, I have decided to challenge myself and set a goal to run the Melbourne half marathon in October next year.

Although I have a few minor ailments, I believe that my body is capable of going the extra distance, and I am considering setting some additional goals for myself:

  1. Run 30-40 kilometres per week to prepare for the upcoming half marathon.
  2. Aim to run at a pace of under six minutes per kilometre on a regular basis.
  3. Improve my fitness level by running uphill more effectively.

I look forward to the challenge.
