Highly-opinionated writing app

I’m rebuilding my writing practice this September. Instead of thinking about the deliverables I want to write, I’m going to focus on building a cadence. To that end I had Claude start coding my perfect, highly-opinionated writing application which I call DLY WRT. There are, of course, many highly-opinionated writing apps on the market, but this one is being built around my own ideal process.

The screenshot doesn’t really illuminate much. It looks like I asked for “dark mode” and nothing else.

I won’t bore you with details. The main point of interest is the writing pane at the bottom. It works a bit like a typewriter because what I’m actively writing stays in that pane. Once I hit enter to finish a paragraph it moves up to the display pane above and cannot be edited.

There’s also a countdown in the upper lefthand corner that helps break everything down into 15-minute writing sprints and multi-sprint sessions. But the sprints are managed with the writing pane itself. The writing pane is the control panel.

As much as possible I keep my fingers on the keyboard.
