Inflated :)

I did the right thing yesterday.

I decided to walk away after realising how drained I was.

Today I woke up energised, and while the corporate job was not very fulfilling or productive (meetings), I moved forward considerably with DfE.

I successfully added listings to the homepage, modified an existing view (which is how Django refers to the C (controller) in the MVC model), created a new view, and created and modified templates (V in MVC).

There was a point at which I almost became overwhelmed because I didn’t know where to start.

But they I told myself my dev mantra:

-Make it work.
-Make it pretty.
-Make it fast.

And make it work I did. I focused on functionality first. I will later have time to focus on aesthetics.

Another thing that helped was that I focused on one small thing at a time. Like adding a link to another place in the app, or something small like that.

It helped built momentum.

I really enjoyed it today.

I’ve been struggling to keep up the development pace for Lists Kit too (due to other commitments), but the one small thing at a time approach really helps. Sometimes the change just takes 15min. But it feels great to see minor but noticeable improvements to the site daily. That’s motivating isn’t it?!

@jasonleow exactly! It is energising to be making progress, even if it’s small.

Haha yes. Initially I was like, this commit is so tiny it’s EMBARRASSING. But sometimes 1 small commit led to another. Then another. All in 1 day. So it’s really about the showing up

Haha inspired by this conversation, I wrote something - https://golifelog.com/posts/one-embarrassingly-small-commit-at-a-time-1700262457518
