Japan Log

Last year a coworker told me he would be spending a year in Japan at a language school; he arrived last September, but a few months early. I told my family it would make sense to visit while he is there. So in August we bought flights to Tokyo Narita.

We are on the third day in Japan now, and so far I’m blown away, to be honest. Even though people seem to be rushing, boarding and getting off trains and subways is organized and slow. People exit, people enter. No rushing in as soon as the door opens, which I observed countless times in Vienna. The same goes through the whole culture; even taking a dump at the toilet takes its time, as the warm water needs time to clean you (or those guys have constant diarrhea).

Currently I’m inside the Shinkansen to Osaka, about a two-hour ride from Tokyo. We will stay there seven days before going “up” to Kanazawa for two nights and then stay the remainder of the time in Tokyo (we stay until 2026-06-01).
