I fell asleep and now I have eight minutes to write 100 words. So I think I’ll post a ballad I wrote with Claude 3 and ChatGPT about the cat in the Flannery O’Connor story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find.” After all, one of the main reasons I fell asleep is because I stayed up too late editing this silly song.

Intro:
In the depths of Georgia’s prickly pines
Where shadows lay their dark designs
A tale unfurls of Pitty Sing
A feline snagged upon fate’s string

Verse 1:
Pitty Sing was a gentle cat,
Living with a lady, sweet and fat.
But fate had plans for this feline brave,
And the family that he couldn’t save.

The Misfit, cold as stone and steel,
With a heart that seemed not to feel.
He took them down, one by one,
Underneath the blazing Georgia sun.

Chorus:
The Misfit came and took their lives,
Leaving Pitty Sing alone alive.
With a heavy heart he became a stray,
And set out to make that villain pay.

Verse 2:
Oh, Pitty Sing, through forests wide,
He lived and slept where the villains hide.
The Misfit’s end, he sought to bring,
A whispering ghost on silent wing.

Oh, Pitty Sing, your tale is long,
Of saving lives and righting wrong.
The Misfit running from your wrath,
Upon your path, your righteous path.

(Chorus)

Verse 3:
Through towns and hollows, Pitty crept,
Throughout the night, while others slept.
With every step, his resolve grew,
The Misfit’s time, he knew, was due.

Pitty Sing caught The Misfit’s eye.
In a showdown under a moonlit sky,
With a mighty pounce and drawn-out paws,
(long pause)
He snatched that villain with his fearsome claws.

(Chorus)

Verse 4:
We sang the song of Pitty Sing,
A cat of courage with a heart that’s king.
In the face of evil, his tail stood tall,
He brought The Misfit to his downfall.

Now the legend of Pitty Sing lives on,
A Georgia hero, a gosh-darned icon.
A feline avenger, with a pounce so true,
He fought for his family, and justice too.

Outro:
The Misfit came and took their lives,
Leaving Pitty Sing alone alive.
A good man may be hard to find,
But don’t ever leave a good cat behind.
