Map update

I often receive notifications from Mazda that a map update is available for the navigation system (Mazda Connect) in my 2017 MX-5. It’s been more than seven years since I bought the car, and I have yet to implement a map upgrade. Mazda only provides free map updates for three years after purchasing your car, so it is a little late for a free upgrade

Mazda claims to have updated 1.4 million roads on their new maps, but they are asking me to pay $130 for the upgrade. While they may have included many updated roads, the cost is not worth it for me to upgrade. I spent $500 five years ago to get the CarPlay upgrade for my infotainment system, and now I use CarPlay all the time while driving. Apple Maps feature is easy to use and always up-to-date, and I have never had a problem with directions.

There will come a time very soon when the old style of navigation systems that require an offline map update will become outdated. Just like how CD players are no longer available in modern cars.
