The Mount Beauty Gorge Walk is a relatively easy scenic trail in Mount Beauty. This 3 km return journey takes approximately 1.5 hours and is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. We walked this route today under beautiful sunshine, bringing the dogs along with us. After about 1 km, we came to a swing bridge over the West Kiewa River. After crossing the bridge and walking uphill, we discovered a swimming hole and an impressive canyon further upstream.

The trail contains rocky sections, so sturdy walking shoes are recommended. There are multiple swimming spots along the route, so pack your swimwear if you want to take a dip. The trail tends to get crowded on warm days, so starting early can help you avoid the crowds and allow for a more peaceful experience.

The path includes a constructed trail with obstacles, short, steep inclines, and occasional steps. When the riverbed rocks are dry in summer, it’s possible to walk, wade, and swim upstream for approximately 400 meters to reach the canyon. Both dogs enjoyed the outing; Louie was thrilled to leap into the river for a swim, while Otis preferred keeping his feet dry.
