My favorite writing app

Today I’m reacquainting myself with an old friend: An app called Gingko Writer. I’ve used it for several years, and even wrote my (currently abandoned) novel draft with it, but recently I’ve focused on writing in Obsidian. I like local storage.
But Gingko Writer is great for structured content like an editorial calendar. It arranges lists into columns rather than rows.
I set up a new document for my 2024 Nachofy writing exercises.
- On the left: All 52+ weeks. Here I will include the weekly themes as they are chosen.
- In the middle: All 366 days. Here I will insert the particular strategy each exercise will focus on.
- On the right: This is where I will do each exercise’s developmental work. Once I have the idea fleshed out I can use ChatGPT to generate the exercise which I will copy into my Obsidian vault until I’m ready to upload it to Substack.
(Of course, I used ChatGPT and Googles Sheets to generate the headers in the format I wanted.)
Already I can tell this is going to work out great. After thinking it might be good to end the year with an exercise inspired by the KonMari method (does it spark joy?) I jumped right in. After doing some developmental work in Gingko Writer, I now have the exercise in my Substack’s list of drafts.
With the app it’s easy to jump from any location to another, but once you are working on a note, it keeps you focused on that one node.
