Old image, new style

This morning I worked on generating a new set of images for my story card deck redesign. In about two hours I generated four versions for each of the 54 cards using the old cards as a model.

Below is the 2022 design. Remember when AI images looked like this? Still, it looked better than what I could produce with clipart. To create these I generated thousands of images with Stable Diffusion and then picked the ones I felt matched the concepts. And even though they’re not great images, I can still use them as image inputs to generate the new versions.

On Ideogram I drop in the original image, choose Remix, and it uses the image and an AI-generated description to create the new image.

However, for the new cards I’m going for a consistent style. The diamonds and hearts all have the vignette effect where it drops a shape behind the figure. The clubs and spades will have the partially colored effect. I make these styles consistent by using a set of other images I created as a style guide.

This is how Ideogram re-interpreted the 2022 images. (The text and layout were added in Canva.)

I’m loving all the styles! This is a huge problem when playing with infinite possibilities. 🤣

That was most of the work–playing with the infinite possibilities until I arrived at something I liked.
