On being a meat proxy

A new term is floating around the anti-AI channels: meat proxy. Immediately, I can raise my hand and say mea culpa. I have acted as a meat proxy in the past, and I’ll probably do it again in the future. This is where I say or reply with the phrase, “My AI said…” or I just copy/paste a snippet from a chatbot (the most shameful variety).

These days I try to, at the very least, have a discussion with AI and then comment using my own words. But of course, my words have been shaped by the conversation in ways that I can’t pick apart.

Over the long term it’s better to write first, hit post, and then let any AI conversation be a follow-up that happens on my own time. That’s a better communication pattern because it forces me to think and articulate an idea I feel is worthy of posting. I am training that skill of articulating an idea for a human audience.

And I can still have an AI discussion later that helps shape my own future thoughts.
