Public Viewing

As I’ve written, I’m not a huge fan of soccer, but my two friends / ex-coworkers who run the coworking space planned some “Public Viewing” this week. If you don’t know about public viewing, it is basically a place where people gather to watch a specific sporting event. Mostly snacks and drinks can be bought there too.

The first one was on Monday, two more will follow on Thursday and Friday. I attended the one on Monday and I found it quite interesting. I still don’t understand why the two doors Belgium did shoot didn’t get approved, but cheering in a crowd was quite funny. Also, there was beer and Schnitzelsemmeln.

So, I will attend tomorrow and potentially on Friday too, and I’ll also walk there instead of driving, that way I don’t need to think about if I need to leave my car overnight there.

During the 94 World Cup, I didn’t know much about football, but got sucked in to the fever that was gripping the UK as England were doing quite well. My main induction was going to the pub at lunchtime with some colleagues to watch a game. The atmosphere was amazing and I got into the game more afterwards. There is nothing like a few beers and some jingoism to get you into football.

I suspect the goals were disallowed due to the offside rule. Basically, it stops players “goal hanging”, standing in front of the opposition goal waiting for the ball to be passed to them to score.

Yes, the atmosphere is something I found quite interesting.

Thanks for the video! It’s still a dumb rule in my opinion. If someone outruns the others, or they just don’t keep track where everybody is, it’s their fault.
