Ramble Day 24: War & Radical Hope
literarylatte • 23 Jun 2025 •
Another writing prompt: “There is a secret café that serves moments instead of meals. What’s on your emotional menu today? And what do you order?”
At this very moment, my ears ring with the sound of sirens confined in this little cafe. I’m ordering a meal that serves security while also ensuring justice, but maybe no menu offers that, too ideal. A five-star meal with no available, good, and honorable chefs, merely people with prestige.
But I hope and pray for my people to stay safe, while also praying for the end of the spreading moral decay.
I also order other items from the menu not for only this particular moment. I order something resembling certainty and stability. An education in a field I love, perhaps, a family that is safe, a country that is moral, a region that is more united, a beautiful land not too far with the filth of settler colonialism removed.
I keep ordering but I can’t imagine the menu offering any of these wishes, but my vision might just be too limited.
And like a writer and activist once said, “nothing less than the most radical imagination will carry us beyond this place.”
