Retreat

I just got back from my weekend retreat with 5 other ladies. It wouldn’t be far fetched to say that I didn’t really know the ladies outside of our monthly book review sessions.

They are all from Ethiopia, they are all ladies and around the age group… though I suspect that I may be the oldest there. They have been part of the book club since the beginning and I was the last to join in October of 2021.

A part of me was a bit weary of how the weekend would turn out. But I kept my mind open to the new experience. We drove in 2 groups to a beach 2 hours away.

Overall, we all got along pretty well. I find that I learn a lot about myself in such settings. I also realize how much I have to work on certain things. Communication is a skill I have always chased. And I am still learning how to listen more and talk less. I don’t know if I am comfortable with group settings like these but it wasn’t as awkward as I expected.
