I remember discussing the topic of salary with work friends. The fact that it is frowned upon by HR of companies in the US, feels like it is a decision made to benefit employers more than employees.
I was discussing this topic with a few people in a club. Most stated that whenever they felt ok enough to discuss salary, they realized that they were underpaid. For whatever reason. The fact is the salary is set by a human. Either consciously or subconsciously, people are biased. Especially in corporate America, not standing for yourself means that you could get stagnant at a salary even if you are a good employee.
Recently, I discovered talking about difficult topics with people. I used to only write about them. Not really discuss certain topics. Now I am seeing the benefit of letting things out. As long as it is a safe space, it helps to hear other people’s perspective. The hard part is developing relationships where people are supportive and there is trust. Otherwise, it is therapeutic to share and discuss.
@keni yeah creating that safe space is often hard work, but when you get it and experience it, it’s the best thing ever!
Exactly Jason. Exactly.
