Smart Gate Lock

Finding a smart lock for my front gate has been harder than expected. I wanted Apple Home and Home Key support, but almost every Home Key lock is designed for a front door, with half the lock sitting safely indoors. A gate is exposed on both sides, so the indoor unit needs protection. My gate adds more constraints. It is a single pedestrian gate with a steel frame, timber pickets and a square timber post. The latch stile is only 25 mm square, which rules out most gate locks and the Aqara U400, a full deadbolt that requires a door 35 mm or thicker.

The Aqara U200 retrofits over a Euro cylinder and supports Home Key, but its outdoor unit is much wider than my stile, and I would still need a suitable gate lock to fit over it. Non-smart options like the D&D LokkLatch and Gatemaster keypad locks suit narrow frames, but I could not confirm an Australian supplier for the Gatemaster. The Aqara U500 Gate Lock is the closest match. It supports Home Key, suits gates 22 to 28 mm thick, and is weatherproof for outdoor use. However, it requires about 70 mm of solid material, so my gate would probably need a custom mounting plate. I will keep looking, but at this stage, the Aqara U500 is the clubhouse leader.
