Smart Lock

As I continue automating various aspects of our home, my attention has now shifted to the front door. I was particularly interested in finding a smart lock that not only integrates seamlessly with Apple Home but also allows me to enter without manually searching for a key or even taking my iPhone out of my pocket. After researching several options and weighing their features, I decided to purchase the Aqara Smart Lock U400 to meet these needs.

The U400 appeals to me primarily because of its support for Apple Home Key and Ultra-Wideband (UWB). When used with a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch, the lock detects my presence and unlocks automatically, which is especially useful when my hands are full. It provides multiple access methods: a fingerprint reader, keypad passcodes, NFC, Apple Home Key, and a mechanical key, ensuring Jane and I are not limited to one option. It also automatically locks when we leave. Additionally, its support for Matter over Thread and integration with Apple Home aligns perfectly with my home automation goals. It feels like a natural evolution for my smart-home setup, making daily use more straightforward, convenient, and seamlessly integrated into the Apple ecosystem.
