Stillness

Why do people want to be still if they’re meant to be in constant movement? Biologically speaking, we know that we have numerous operations in our system internally. Hormones are being produced on a circadian rhythm, blood is flowing and heart is beating. Even during our sleep, the body is still in motion.
The only time we are in total stillness is when we’re dead. We are built to move just like the world around us like in atomic vibrations doing their splits and whatsoever.
I’m not questioning the benefits of meditation and the silencing of obstructive thoughts. I’m only finding it hard to understand why do we need that stillness, unless something is wrong with the way we are moving.
I think the stillness is an invitation to control mental activity. Think of it as a room where everybody is shouting and wants to have a say vs a facilitated conversation where people speak in turns. I sometimes give myself time to enjoy the ride of hopping from one idea to the next without forcing myself to complete tasks. That daydreaming/brainstorming is both productive and enjoyable. I WANT my attention to run wild. Other times I need to direct my attention through pre-defined tasks I need to get done.
So the mental chatter isn’t always bad. It’s bad when we don’t feel good about it or need the silence to not be overstimulated by thoughts.
