Sunrise over Palm Cove

One of the greatest blessings in my life is escaping Melbourne’s winter annually to enjoy Queensland’s warmth. While I truly love Melbourne and the life my wife and I have created there, I often wonder if we might have taken a different route had it not been for the family and friends who ground us. Maybe, instead of settling in Northcote, we could have moved north to Queensland.
Waking up early on holidays has its perks. While others sleep, I quietly head outside as a new day starts. Since being at Palm Cove, I’ve walked along the beach before sunrise, before settling at the local cafe overlooking the ocean, watching the sky change from darkness to colour. The first streaks of pink and orange appear on the horizon, and soon the sun rises over the Coral Sea, its reflection shimmering on the water. The silhouettes of the people walking along the beach among the palm trees remind me of what a special place it is.
Those moments hold a profound calming effect. The world appears quiet, unpressured, and simple. Daily worries and routines seem far away. Although this holiday has been amazing, the peaceful sunrises at Palm Cove might be the most memorable part I bring back. They have undeniably been the highlight of my trip.
