“The Age” quiz is a daily quiz in “The Age” newspaper here in Melbourne. There is a twenty-five question quiz in Saturday’s edition of the newspaper, and my wife and I will sit around the breakfast table, completing the quiz before we start our day.

I have also introduced the daily quiz to my team at work, sharing “The Age” quiz with my colleagues every lunchtime. We are a small band of trivia buffs that come together to form a brains trust, with the ultimate goal to correctly answer the fifteen questions to attain the top score of 30 points. We also attempt to get the nine-letter word for the adjacent word puzzle. We enjoy the daily test of our general knowledge, regardless of how well we go.

General knowledge is the information we accumulate over a lifetime from various mediums. Our level of general knowledge is strongly linked to our intelligence, memory and personality. So, it is no wonder that we all strive to be seen as the smartest kid in the room when the quiz comes out.

Some days the quiz can be more challenging than others. We rarely attain the top score of 30 points, and we are disappointed with our efforts when we get a score below 20 points. But it remains a great way to connect with the team while we work from home.
