The importance of family dinner

Kids grow up. It is what they are meant to do. They go from needing us for everything to building their own lives, finding partners, creating routines and making homes away from the one they grew up in. While that is a sign of success as a parent, it does not make the transition any easier.

Recently, my wife and I were talking about how much we miss having our girls around every day. We miss the casual conversations in the kitchen, hearing about their day and simply having them close by. Time may pass, but it does not lessen how much we love them or how much we enjoy their company.

Our family dinner every second Sunday has become a cherished tradition. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a special time to reconnect, share stories, laugh, and catch up on each other’s lives. We include not only our daughters but also their partners, who have become integral to our extended family.

In today’s busy world, these gatherings provide a rare opportunity: uninterrupted time together. For a few hours, life slows down, and family becomes the focus. We always look forward to these Sundays because they remind us that, even though our girls no longer live at home, our bonds remain strong.
