The never ending move

It’s been almost two years since we decided to move house, yet sorting through everything we’ve accumulated over the years still feels like it’s ongoing. We’ve been happily settled into our new home for quite some time, but the storage unit has remained one of those lingering jobs, a reminder that the move was never completely finished. With today being a public holiday, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to tackle it properly. The goal was to move everything into a smaller storage unit, which meant being ruthless about what was actually worth keeping.

Fortunately, the storage facility had a large rubbish bin available, and they were happy for me to fill it with the things I no longer wanted. That made the job considerably easier. Box by box, I made quick decisions about items that had somehow survived previous clean-outs. By the end of the day, I had reduced our storage space by around 50 per cent, which felt like a significant achievement. There is still more to throw away, but the bin was well and truly full. Once it is emptied, I will return for another round. Hopefully, after nearly two years, we are approaching the end of the long house move.
