To hell in a handbasket

Though I drive to work daily, I don’t mind using public transport when I need to. But it can be incredibly frustrating when it all goes to hell in a handbasket like it did today. I had put my car in for repairs, and for the next few days, I have resorted to public transport to get to and from work.

I take it for granted that public transport will be available for me when I want to use it. When a storm came through this afternoon, public transport ground to a halt and both the train and tram were replaced with buses. When I started my trip home, it became apparent that it would be a long trip home.

As I approached the train replacement bus stop, I saw a bus depart. No worries, I thought, there should be another one along soon. But, how mistaken was I? It was nearly an hour before the next bus would arrive. I did complain to the guy in the yellow vest standing at the bus stop, but he wasn’t driving the buses and couldn’t do anything about it.

I got home after a journey of nearly two and half hours. I am not looking forward to making that journey back to work tomorrow, so wish me luck.

Yikes, that sounds absolutely awful. A little bit of rain grinds public transport to a halt??
