TotalCostOfOwnership.App

So, as I think I’ve written, I bought another domain. But let’s go back a step.

Since I’ve owned vehicles, I’ve been tracking kilometres driven, gas used (well since 2021 electricity used), maintenance costs. Based on this extensive tracking, I was able to calculate exactly how much each vehicle I’ve owned has cost me.
For example, the Seat Leon I’ve had before my current Tesla Model 3 had a total cost of €17953.75. Or broken down to € per kilometre €0.88. In contrast, my Model 3 currently stands at €1.15 per kilometre driven.

I’ve always wanted to do the same calculations for my Apartment too, but I never got along implementing it. I can’t even remember what brought me to buying the domain, but I thought it was finally time to implement the total cost of ownership for my Apartment. And I thought, my not create a public site where everybody could do so?

Back to now. Working with Next.js for more than a year now also laid the base framework for everything. I tinkered around a bit and settled on matine.dev as my React Framework, as I’m terrible at design. Thanks to @jasonleow I came across Botpoison and Formspark so a “signup to know when we launch” could also be added quickly.

Of course there are still a bunch of things to do, especially I really need to add some form of basic content to the site, so everybody coming across it knows what the plan / goal is.

I plan on documenting the journey here, because, why not?

I’m seeing the comparisons between the cost of ownership of EVs and gas-powered vehicles slowly tilt back in favor of gas cars. Of course, gas prices will always be a fluctuating variable. For example, I recently read that EV tires have to be replaced much sooner. Is your sense that EV maintenance costs are not as low as they have been touted?

@therealbrandonwilson Well, the direct comparison above is not quite right, as I have driven way more miles with my Seat that with my Model 3, so of course cost per km is up :) Also the M3 is like double the price of the Seat, so the price per km should also double, but that isn’t the case.
I’m still driving on my first set of 8 tires, though I will have to replace two winter tiers at the start of the next winter season (November this year), the rear-wheel drive uses them up a little more quickly than a front-wheel drive seem to do, but again, comparing 160hp of the Seat to more than 300hp on the M3.
Speaking of maintenance, the only thing I have to do is wiper fluid. So yes, maintenances are as low as promised :)
Edit: I’m planning to add both of the cars as an example calculation to the website.

@phaidenbauer Awesome! Glad those random tools are helping ya.

Without them I probably wouldn’t have put out the page yet. I didn’t want to think about a way to send emails via browser again so users could reach me 🙈
