When failover works

I often hear much noise from my family members when our internet connection fails, but they never say anything when our internet failover works. Recently, a windstorm caused some trees to fall and disrupted the power in my area, which also affected my primary internet connection. To avoid any interruption to our internet, I set up a failover system at home using a load-balancing router and a backup 5G internet connection. When the primary internet drops out, the load balancer automatically switches to the 5G modem, so our internet service remains uninterrupted.

When I told my wife that the primary internet connection had been down all day, she hadn’t noticed this. Given that she works from home and spends half the day on video calls, it was an excellent testament to the benefits of the failover system I had implemented. The whole point of having a failover is that the users don’t notice when it kicks in. With a sound failover system, you shouldn’t hear anyone complain when the internet drops out. My internet failover was tested today and passed with flying colours—a fine example of when failover works.
